Not School Homeschool.

Since we have officially not enrolled Rosie in Kindergarten for this coming fall I figured it’s time to start practicing our homeschooling routine. I’m realizing now that this will take a lot of organization and dedication on my part.  We can’t just float through our days and wait for knowledge to magically appear.  Unschooling kind of sounds like this is how it works, but I don’t think that’s quite true.  Unschooling parents spend time facilitating activities for their kids to do that will...

Salamander Search. 1

Salamander Search.

Reason number 4,589 parenting is difficult:  Figuring out how to manage a personality you don’t understand. Poor cautious Rosie. Today we went on a salamander search.  The park guide led us on a hike upstream–we actually hiked in the creek.  In some spots it was deep, other areas were shallow.  I had so much fun!  I wore Ada in the mei tai carrier on my chest and I had a backpack with water and snacks on my back.  I was a little worried about...

Sugar Camp and Type A Personalities. 4

Sugar Camp and Type A Personalities.

Yesterday (Friday) we went to Sugar Camp. Since all the snow is melted, and the sap is now flowing through the trees, working to push nutrients out to the tips of branches for the growth of leaves, it’s time to make maple syrup.  A couple hours north of where we live there’s a parks and rec department that hosts a sugar camp in their maple grove. Rosie got to taste tree water, which is the sap flowing from the tree. There...

Revolutionary Ideas.

We went to the library recently for preschool story time.  They have signs and info everywhere, and the children’s librarian made a special announcement: It’s time to enroll your child for kindergarten!  Attend the library’s special getting ready for kindergarten events!  Here’s a list of books to read to your child to get them used to the idea of going off to school! So I’m really doing it.  I am not enrolling Rosie for school. It’s one thing to talk about...

Preschool Homeschool…

I have been felled by a cold.  Oh misery.  It’s not a terrible cold, just enough to give me the sniffles and a tickle in the my throat and make me want to lay in bed for a day watching bad TV and eating soup. Most unfortunately motherhood does not come with bad TV and soup days.  Instead I get to blow my nose with Ada’s cloth wipes while carrying on my normal daily slave tasks around the home. Ah well, at least my...

Yesterday was the first day of the spring semester classes for homeschool co-op. Rosie was so excited.  She’s so very extroverted, she needs to have opportunities to go out and meet other people.  She tries to talk to every person she sees when we’re out shopping, poor thing.  She wants to tell every soul that her name is Rosie and she’s age 4 and a half and her doll’s name is Mary.  (All of her dolls are named Mary, after Mary...
