Cheeky Little Bugger.
Yesterday Tyler was in the kitchen buttering a biscuit that I’d just taken out of the oven. I’d gone upstairs to nurse Henry in bed, because Henry prefers to only nurse snuggled under the covers.
According to Tyler he saw something out of the corner of his eye and glanced over to see one of the biscuits on the back of the pan lift up and fall back down.
The pan was pushed up against the back of the stove, under the panel where the knobs for the burners are located.
Tyler, being Tyler, panicked and dropped his half buttered biscuit. He backed away and stared. Then he saw something unbelievable.
A tiny furry arm shot out of a small hole under the control panel of the oven, grabbed the biscuit off the pan, and tried to pull it inside the control panel through the small hole. Of course the huge biscuit wouldn’t fit through the little hole, so the furry arm was forced to drop the biscuit and retreat.
Tyler immediately ran upstairs screaming and flapping his arms. He insisted I had to wake the half asleep baby and come downstairs RIGHT THIS SECOND because something was terribly wrong in the kitchen.
I came down the stairs rolling my eyes. Right as I walked in the kitchen he silently pointed to the stove and I saw it for myself: A tiny furry arm with a paw for a hand reaching through the underside of the oven control panel and grabbing a biscuit right off of the pan.
I zoomed over to bend down and look up through the little hole. It was a mouse. A clever little mouse!
Tyler didn’t think it was as funny as I did. I laughed, and laughed, and laughed.
(Rats are not funny. But mice are cute, and while gross not nearly as horrifying as the rats at the cabin. A mouse, I’ll take it.)
My cats have already noticed the mouse. They’re stalking the stove area. Sorry clever little mouse. If you don’t evacuate your days are surely numbered!
We pulled out the stove and found a hole left during renovations. I’m going to plug it with insulation and a board. That’s probably where the mice are entering. Old house, mice, to be expected I would think.
I just can’t believe the funny little mouse was reaching through the oven control panel trying to snag a whole biscuit hot off the pan!
I wish I had a video.
