We met Kolya today.
He was pretty much awesome.
Of course now Tyler is having cold feet. It’s a big commitment, we don’t make enough money to add a fourth child to our family, typical fears. He’s also still in love with Igor, but he has to accept that ship has sailed.
So this is the plan: Spend some more time with Kolya, and wait for murky waters to clear.
One of two things will happen: It will become apparent that this is not to be, or everything will fall into place, like it always does.
I’m not going to lie–I really like this boy. I’m praying and hoping that Tyler gets past his worries and jumps on board.
The family hosting Kolya also has a son they adopted from Ukraine last year. He said that Kolya asked him if they would adopt him. Their adopted son explained in Ukrainian that they already had seven kids (!!) and they couldn’t fit anymore children at their home. Kolya understood, and said that he loves America. He wants to stay here forever, and he had their adopted son translate that he wants them to find him a family of his own. He’s only 9. Can you imagine being 9 years old and asking for a family?
He has his Granny in Ukraine, but she also cares for his 3 older siblings. He has no parents. Once she is unable to care for them, he will be all alone. She is hoping he can be adopted so that he has a chance. He can’t even read yet, and not because he’s delayed or anything.
Anyway, I’m waiting. I’m praying for clarity.
