Nothing much exciting is happening here at the moment.
My refrigerator decided to die.
For the past month or so I’ve noticed that sometimes things in it don’t feel that cold. Then I would check it again a few hours later only to find food frozen. I was beginning to think I was crazy!
But this same thing happened to our refrigerator last year at the cabin. (Oh Lord, remember that saga?) It leaked water from the top of the inside of the refrigerator part, and then it would get warm and alternately freeze everything. And…then it died.
Same thing, whatever parts go out that cause this happened to this refrigerator also.
Luckily I had been cautious about stocking it fully lately for this very, very reason. Tyler kept telling me it was fine, but no! I knew it!
I got a drink out of the refrigerator on Wednesday morning and it wasn’t cold at all. Then I noticed that the jug of milk was sweating. One of the cans of biscuits in the very back, which is typically the coldest spot, had burst open. What the what? I’ve never had that happen before.
I don’t exactly like canned biscuits, but I struggle to find things without dairy that Ada can/will eat for breakfast and those are one of them. Not only is she allergic to milk protein, but she’s also very picky.
I called the property manager right away and he had to call the owner in California to see what he wanted to do. Repair it, or buy a new one, and the budget.
This is the part I love and hate about renting. Thank God I didn’t have to pay for a new appliance, but I hate just waiting. If I were buying it then I would go straight to the store and order one.
I waited 24 hours and heard nothing, which is annoying. How hard could it be?
Finally I called the property manager back on Thursday. He said he had totally forgotten about it. At least he was honest. He never heard back from the owner. So he just went to Lowes and bought a new refrigerator. The soonest they could get it here is Monday.
We have a chest freezer and a dorm sized refrigerator, so I’ll survive. I don’t mind waiting until Monday knowing that I’m getting a brand new refrigerator. Unlike at the cabin, where my idiot landlords had no plan and kept trying to find one for free, then got a bunch of strange men to drop one off at 10 o’clock at night. It was old, molded, smelled bad, and didn’t even work quite right. The compressor made a loud clunking sound.
Water under the bridge.
Anyway, brand new refrigerator. Yay! I’m curious to see what size and type he ordered. I’m hoping for an ice maker. We had an ice maker in the first refrigerator at the cabin, which lasted for a couple months, and it was glorious. We have yet to reach the glorious American status of filtered ice and water directly from the refrigerator.
I do have a garbage disposal at this house though, for the first time ever in my married life. That’s pretty awesome.
I just spent ten minutes writing about refrigerators. I told you there was nothing else exciting going on around here.
