Egglo Entertainment: An Easter-filled Review!
Ada, age 4.5, was super thrilled to receive our latest review items in the mail a few weeks ago. An envelope of glow in the dark Easter eggs and a story book from Egglo Entertainment!
Here are my goofballs exploring the package.
Egglo Entertainment sent us a package containing:
The Egglo Glow in the Dark Egg Hunt Event Curriculum (PDF download)
At first I wasn’t sure what the point was. Easter eggs that glow in the dark, great. However, after using this product I think I was wrong. Egglo Eggs are a fun twist on the typical Easter egg hunt. The creator of Egglo Eggs wanted to tie in the meaning of the Christian Easter holiday with the tradition of egg hunts, so she came up with a fun storybook and these awesome glow in the dark Easter eggs.
The simple idea behind the eggs is this: Jesus is the light of the world, and the light of the eggs symbolizes the light of Jesus overcoming the darkness.
Plus who doesn’t enjoy playing games in the dark? We all know hide and seek in the dark is a million times more fun than hiding and seeking in the daylight. Why not an Easter egg hunt in the dark with glowing eggs and flashlights?!
To further explain the concept of Easter and Jesus being the light of the world there is a book included with the eggs.
The storybook was actually pretty in depth. The Egglo curriculum is geared towards ages 4-12. The adventure book has a lot of text, making it appealing to my eight year old, but somewhat difficult to sit through for my four year old. They both loved the story though! We ended up reading it in two parts since it was so long. The book has nice full page color pictures that helped keep my four year old’s attention.
As parents we have debated whether the Easter Bunny and secular Easter celebrations are important. I feel like the kids miss the meaning of the Christian holiday because it gets lost in the fun secular traditions of egg hunts and Easter bunnies. I like that Egglo Eggs is able to tie the two concepts together, letting the kids have traditional Easter fun while still sharing the message of the Christian holiday. Perfect!
Egglo also gave us downloadable curriculum, which includes coloring pages from the storybook. The kids had fun with that! It also includes all kinds of ideas for using the eggs and the curriculum with a group, even party planning tips. (Thanks for mentioning food allergies Egglo Entertainment! As a family with an allergic child I always appreciate when party planning includes thoughts about being aware that not every child can eat just anything presented.)
After reading the story and coloring a whole bunch of pictures from the downloadable curriculum we were finally ready to use the eggs! We put the bible verse scrolls inside of the eggs and had an evening egg hunt. Fun!
(As it turns out, Egglo Eggs are also enjoyable for kittens. Glow in the dark madness! I wonder what would happen if I replaced the bible verses with catnip…)
Egglo Eggs are great fun, and the book provoked some good discussion about the true meaning of Easter with my eight year old. I could see this being a fun program to use with a church group or at an Easter party. We are definitely saving the eggs to use again next year at Easter. (And we’ll keep using this season, because the kids wouldn’t let me put them away this afternoon. Who knew glow in the dark eggs could provide such long hours of play?)
We loved getting the opportunity to review this product. Thanks Egglo Entertainment!
