I think I’m just going to have to accept that with Henry in his terrible caveman toddler stage (which seems to be at its peak currently) I am not going to be able to successfully do everything.
Henry alone seems to be a full time job. He screams and cries so much. If he’s not in my face screaming, then he’s destroying something. He won’t sleep. He falls asleep, but he won’t stay asleep. During nap time I’m lucky if he will sleep alone for 30 minutes without screaming. At night he wakes up tons.
He has always cried a lot more than the girls ever did. As an infant he cried almost all the time he wasn’t being held and talked to. He has always wanted constant stimulation, whether it’s movement, touch, or eye contact. He craves eye contact and attention! He also seeks sensory input, like banging his head, and slapping, tearing, smashing, yelling, jumping, rubbing. Probably not out of the realm of normal for some toddlers, but exhausting all the same.
I’m finding it impossible to give the girls as much attention as I would like. Instead I spend time dragging Henry around keeping him from head butting them, or wrestling him while he screams because he saw scissors and he isn’t allowed to stab something with them.
Unlike the girls he does not play with toys. Instead he bounces from one thing to the next, anything he can’t have he desperately wants. If he can’t manage to reach it, or if we take it away, then he will just flop onto the ground and scream. For a long, long time.
He’s 19 months old. I hope this is the “terrible two’s” because I can’t imagine anything much more terrible.
Don’t get me wrong, he’s sweet and lovely. We adore him. But he is much, much more difficult to manage than the girls! I guess it’s just his personality.
So I can’t keep up with the laundry folding, because it requires two hands. I have tried so hard, but after Henry has thrown the 23rd neatly folded stack of clothes I’ve given up entirely. I can’t keep up with a lot of things thanks to my tornado child.
While I’m writing this he’s sitting next to me watching Wow Wow Wubzy, his favorite show, and rubbing my arm. He can’t even sit still to watch TV. Any second he’s going to start fighting with me to slam the laptop lid closed, and he will try to climb all over my body or something. Better hit save while I can!
