Fundraising to host an orphan this summer!
Exciting news! So exciting I’m about to explode.
Our family has decided to host an orphan from Ukraine this summer for six weeks. Rosie is absolutely thrilled. She’s already pledged all the money in her piggy banks to go towards the fees.
We’re going through the program Children’s Cultural Connection.
The little girl we want to host is six years old. Her name is only listed as “K”. She likes play dough, dancing, dress-up, and is above average in her studies.
(There’s a chance we may be able to have her eye treated while she’s here also, I’m going to look into it. She will have medical insurance while she’s here.)
There’s only one catch–I am really going to need your help! We can’t just afford to pay the money to get her here on our own. We have a home and lots of love, but lack of funds. We’re going to need donations. This little girl has had several hosts fall through already. We’re her last chance.
There’s only about a week left before the deadline. Do you think we can raise $2,700 in a week? I’m praying really hard!
The cost of her travel is $2,500. The other $200 will go towards any fees involved with our background checks and the mini homestudy the program requires before we can host her. If by some miracle any money is left over or if extra is raised it will go towards buying her anything she needs while she’s with us, like clothing. If we can raise all the funds we’ll be picking her up at the Atlanta airport six hours from our house on July 15th!
Hosting makes a huge difference in these children’s lives. It gives them relief from orphanage. They get a chance to be loved, to see what a family is like, and to learn English. There’s also a good chance they might find a family to adopt them. (I wouldn’t rule out the possibility that we could fall in love with her and pursue adoption either.) Apparently kids who have participated in the program in the past return and do better in school and have better self esteem than those who didn’t get a chance to participate.
This video explains it way better than I can!
I feel awkward asking people for money, but fundraising is the only way she’s going to make it here. We have such a short amount of time to raise the funds. They’re buying the tickets at the end of the month!
If 100 people give $25 we’ll have enough money for her travel fees. Of course any amount of donation is welcome, even a tiny amount. (Donations are 100% tax deductible!)
I created a chip-in account so people can donate if they so desire.
If you don’t have Flash on your device and can’t see the widget, here’s a direct link:

(If we don’t manage to raise enough money to host an orphan this summer then we’ll continue fundraising to host next summer!)
