Vladik’s hosting fees are all paid up! I just paid the final amount invoice today. It was like a week late, but it’s done.
Now I have to:
1) Do the $45 background check
2) Do the $40 home safety check
3) Fill out and mail in paperwork
4) Figure out how I’m going to afford the plane tickets to pick him up.
I hate that Orlando is so far away from me. Southwest has direct flights to Orlando from Columbus, but for the dates (May 27th)…the tickets plus hotel would be like $510. That’s so much money just to pick him up. :( And I’m sure it will be about the same cost to return him also, ugh. And that’s with only one of us going, probably Tyler again because he gets to have all the fun while I hold down the fort.
Orlando is 16 hours from us, not including stops. We just cannot do that huge of a drive with poor Vladi after he’s already taken a 15+ hour train ride to the airport, then flown across all of Europe and the Atlantic. Flying only takes 2.5 hours, direct non-stop flight. It’s so easy. But expensive.
Anyway, regardless of the plane ticket woes, Vlad is coming and I can’t wait to meet him!
A huge, huge thanks to everyone that contributed to his hosting fees. They’ve already told him he’s coming to America and he’s very excited.
He won’t find out any details about our actual family until the letter we write him is given to him at the airport. They don’t tell the kids ahead of time about family details in case there are last minute changes, it’s confusing for them. Sometimes a family’s plans change or they back out at the last minute. They did tell Vlad that his host family isn’t the same one as last winter, so he knows that much and he’s ok with it.
We’re going to be finding out his clothing size and weight soon. This Christmas, in 2015, he was wearing size 5t. He was born in 2007, so he’s 8. So, so tiny. I’m curious to see if he’s grown any over the past few months.
