Life with Twins…
I haven’t had time to write here very much recently. Since my blog post about my son accidentally getting locked in the car went viral I’ve had mixed feelings about sharing so many intimate details of my life with the internet at large. I’ve had my fifteen minutes of internet fame and it was…um…interesting? Hah.
Life since my twins were born has been a bit chaotic. The twins cry ALL the time unless they’re nursing. Whew! You’d think fate could cut me a break and give me at least one easy going baby out of five, but no. Just like my other kids the twins are intense and high needs little creatures.
Beatrix particularly feels offended by the entire world except for my nipples. And music, but she is very selective about her tastes. She will be screaming her head off in the car until I turn on her favorites. That happens to be Daddy Yankee, Pitbull (in Spanish only, not the English songs), Louis Fonsi, and Jesse and Joy. I have no real explanation for this other than that I listened to the Pitbull Sirius radio station a lot during my pregnancy. She likes Latin beats.
They’re growing up fast. I keep reminding myself that this is only a few rough months out of the span of a lifetime.
Twin parenting is not for the faint of heart.
It’s the most intense juggling act of my life.
They’re both crying at the same time.
I’m nursing two babies at once and I have hands and arms like that of a t-rex–too short to do anything other than flap uselessly.
One is screaming and kicking and wants to be walked around and bounced, but the other is asleep while nursing, so if I move to stand up and walk the first twin then the second will wake up and scream.
One twin is sleeping and nursing and the other twin poops. You should see me changing a poopy diaper while laying down and nursing another baby without waking them.
What even is this crazy twin parent life!?
I thought it would be like having two babies, but somehow that doesn’t accurately sum it up. It’s so much harder than that!
I won’t even tell you about night time. Let me just say that some nights one wakes up while the other sleeps. Then the first twin goes to sleep and the second twin wakes up. I am only one person, one very tired person…
But they’re really cute. (When they aren’t screaming…and sometimes they’re still cute even when they are screaming.)
