Bicycle, Bicycle: The Movie! 3

Bicycle, Bicycle: The Movie!

Look at this video I made of Rosie learning to ride her bike for the first time! I made it with my 5d Mark II instead of the iPhone.  It was fun, I’ll have to practice making more videos with it. Rosie thinks the part with Ada at the end is the best, she laughs so hard every time she watches it. (It should be HD quality and is on YouTube, but when I post it on the entry...

Right. 1

Right.

It’s…July! JULY. I might have a baby in the month of July. “Might” being the key word of course.  His official due date based on the dating ultrasound is the 1st of August.  Rosie and Ada were both born at 39 weeks, but watch this little guy fake me out and make me wait until 42 weeks or something.  That would continue the trend of this being the longest pregnancy ever. I’m hoping for July 27 or 28.  Rosie’s due date...

Fiber Farm. 0

Fiber Farm.

Yesterday our homeschool co-op took a field trip to a fiber farm, which happened to be at my neighbor’s house!  It was a neighbor I’ve never met.  She lives on the street behind ours, up on the ridge top.  Over the hill there’s one cabin, some woods, and one farm between her’s and mine. She was very nice!  She has an 1800’s log cabin that they fully restored and filled with 1800’s era things.  So neat. She put Ada in the...

Realities.

This quote pretty much sums it all up–though lately just getting up in the morning has been the most difficult part! “I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.” -E.B. White Between this extra exhausting pregnancy and moving I am totally worn out.  The girls have yet another cold, somehow, despite hardly leaving the cabin lately.  I’m just waiting to come down with...

Luna Moth. 2

Luna Moth.

Yesterday I was having a bad morning.  As in, everything possible was going wrong. I went outside on my porch to sulk in a rocking chair and look what fluttered up and landed on the cabin wall right by my head! A gorgeous male luna moth! They’re fairly rare.  I’ve always wanted to see a live one and never have.  They hatch, mate for about 24 hours, then lay their eggs at the base of black walnut trees. They have no...

Sweet Baby Boy! 1

Sweet Baby Boy!

For my birthday (which is in June coming up) my grandma paid for one last ultrasound. Just a last sneak peek at Baby H before August!  I’m so glad we did it, I loved seeing his face. The ultrasound tech said he’s very long and “good sized”, and his chest looks fluffy and chubby too. He also has hair!  She said he’s taking up every inch inside, which would be why I was up all last night unable to breathe. There’s...

Beautiful Things. 2

Beautiful Things.

Beautiful things, so many beautiful things. We’ve become regular visitors to the graves. The neighbor, who has lived here her entire life (along with the rest of her extended family) told me that in the 1870’s there was a diptheria epidemic here and the families lost so many members they filled the graveyard. There are lots of big field stones stuck into the ground with no markings on them. Graves of which beloved person?  The people who might remember are long...

Cute Chicks and Raw Factoids. 2

Cute Chicks and Raw Factoids.

The other day we had our first birth at the cabin! (This is an iPhone snapshot. Seriously! And in case you were wondering that big pink spot on the chick is the thigh, nothing is wrong with it. Seconds later a big clawed foot popped on out, connected to that plump pink thigh.) In my garage at the old house there was a hen sitting on eight eggs in a box in the back of the garage.  I waited until the...

More Life Out Here!

After five (yes, count them FIVE) long calls to Windstream and two tech visits to my house the internet is working again.  Who knows how long it will last.  It’s slow, but I don’t care as long as it comes on. The issue seems to be that the firmware in my modem–the new modem they gave us–needed to be updated, but no one told me until call number five. Why would it take five different people and two different techs to tell...

I feel an extreme sense of peace about living here. I’m typically a fairly anxious person–and don’t get me wrong, I am still anxious about being alone all night with the kids because it seems like things always go wrong at night and I just need another set of hands or another adult for reassurance.  I hate being in charge of everything all by myself in the dark when the world is asleep! However, this house and this land just feel...
