Sight. (A day at the creek.) 2

Sight. (A day at the creek.)

Today it felt like summer outside. I love summer.  I love being outside.  Summer weather makes me happy, even when I’m sweating in the blazing sun. I’ve been looking forward to this summer because Ada is an outdoors girl.  Rosie, well she isn’t…she doesn’t like bugs, or dirt, or anything like that. Last year in the spring we went on a guided hike up a creek nearby and Rosie sobbed the entire time.  Today we went back to the same creek to play. ...

Chicks meet the outside. 1

Chicks meet the outside.

My daffodils are blooming a month early.  I’m not about to complain! We took our chicks outside into the grass for the first time yesterday.  They were not particularly impressed, preferring to be held and hide under us more than anything. They may be a wee bit spoiled. :) This is Minnie Pearl.  Tractor Supply had a sign up saying she is a Barred Rock, but she doesn’t have the white spot on her head like Barred Rock chicks should. I asked...

Pictures from last week. 3

Pictures from last week.

From one extreme to the other…55 degrees and bike riding to snow.  Our snow was wet, muddy, and overcast but still fun for the two hours it stayed on the ground…. This is what happened while I was putting the bikes away in the garage.  Ada has found a weakness in her plans for world domination. And then the brief snow…which lasted only a few hours before being consumed by the ever present mud. This has been a very non-wintery winter. We...

Winter Sun & Parenting Fail. 0

Winter Sun & Parenting Fail.

Parenting fail of the day yesterday: It was 60 degrees and sunny out yesterday afternoon, so we went to the park. Gorgeous winter sunlight. Just what everyone needs–a dose of vitamin D and fresh air.  Soak it up. The girls ran and ran.  In fact they did almost nothing but run! Rosie wouldn’t even stop to let me take her picture.  How dare a five year old want to have fun rather than be photographed by her mother.  Tsk. Clearly no one...

A quick study of Ada at 20 months: 5 minutes in the tub. 0

A quick study of Ada at 20 months: 5 minutes in the tub.

This morning we did all of our school plans for the day–Rosie wanted to focus for some reason.  I’m not complaining!  We did our morning board, where we write the day of the week, the date in two forms, the day of school we’re on, the weather, etc.  Then we did a math worksheet about different ways to add up the number five.  Math is Rosie’s hardest subject. We learned about the parts of a fish and how fish are different...

Flatline. 8

Flatline.

I’ve really been struggling with anxiety lately. I think Ada has broken me.  Worn me down until there is just nothing sane left. The problem is that she doesn’t sleep.  She tosses and turns and cries and wants to nurse ALL NIGHT LONG.  Every single night.  Not just a couple of bad nights, but every night. It’s beyond normal baby things.  It’s not due to nursing, or co-sleeping.  People love to blame it on those.  Rosie nursed and co-slept and had no...

January Sunshine. 1

January Sunshine.

Rosie didn’t do dance class last semester because I thought she wasn’t getting that much out of it. That proved to be a mistake since she asked why she wasn’t going to dance class EVERY single day all fall.  So this semester, she’s back at it sponsored by my mother-in-law.  Today was the first class and she was so very excited.  She insisted on wearing her heart tights instead of the standard white ones everyone else wears. Here she is ready to...

New Year’s Day: 55 and sunny outside…! The girls went outside to play in the new house they got for Christmas. This picture is like Ada all summed up in one snapshot.  Crooked grin, hammer swinging, chipped front tooth, pure happy. It was extremely windy out.  Cooler air on the way! Big blue eyes!  (Ignore the muddy dog prints. I give up during winter.) They look so happy, don’t they? I’m afraid I’m not being a very good mother to them right...

Sugar Cookies & Second Shift Blues. 0

Sugar Cookies & Second Shift Blues.

Aren’t they just gorgeous? LOL!   I feel like I need to declutter before Christmas hits us. The rooms in my house are so small.  We have a lot of big toys…like a kitchen center, the awesome wooden rocking boat, a school bus/slide thing, a rocking doggy.  The girls play with those things all the time.  There’s nothing I can really get rid of that won’t be sorely missed, you know?  If we had a basement we could just put some things down there,...

Food Allergies & An Afternoon with Friends. 1

Food Allergies & An Afternoon with Friends.

Note: The first half of the entry (the writing) is about Ada’s stomach virus, and poop vs. my food allergies.  If you’re eating or that offends you, you may want to skip to the cute kid pictures below.   Ada had her first stomach virus on Wednesday. She woke up at 5 in the morning and burped then choked a little, and spewed.  Thankfully it was all breastmilk, but still. She threw up all morning and all afternoon.  It was so...
