At the Zoo

This weekend we went to the zoo with Igor. Rosie hates it because Igor demands all of the attention, constantly talking and trying to make us go faster, then complaining that he’s tired, or hot, or his belly hurts… We have a zoo membership, so I had to keep reminding the girls that we can come back next week and walk as slow as we want! Here are a few random videos I made of Igor at the zoo, just for...

Horizons Preschool Curriculum Set: A Review!

Ok, so there were two reasons I wanted to review Horizons Preschool Curriculum Set from Alpha Omega Publications.     The first reason is somewhat obvious: Ada is five, starting kindergarten in September, and this would be a great review point to see what all she had missed absorbing throughout her preschool years. We haven’t done formal preschool learning around our house. I guess you could say we’re preschool unschoolers. ;) I believe in preschool learning by osmosis…you’d be surprised how sponge-like...

To Love and Let Go–

“Life is made up of a collection of moments that are not ours to keep. The pain we encounter throughout our days spent on this earth comes from the illusion that some moments can be held onto. Clinging to people and experiences that were never ours in the first place is what causes us to miss out on the beauty of the miracle that is the now. All of this is yours, yet none of it is. How could it be?...

Blacklick Metro Park Columbus 0

Metro Parks.

Yesterday was Henry’s 2nd birthday! Pictures of that to come shortly, I haven’t had time to go through all of them yet. During the day yesterday we went to check out a local metro park. Did I mention how impressed I am with the parks here? Hundreds of acres of preserved prairie land and woods WITH CLEAN FLUSHING TOILETS. The parks we’ve visited are so so clean too, and perfectly landscaped with flower beds and such in main areas. This metro...

Zoo!

Igor spent the entire day today and yesterday riding his bike! He must have ridden miles worth of sidewalk and road around our block. He is so happy. I can’t describe it. He’s doing really well these past few days. Something in him has changed. It’s like he’s gone from 2D to 3D. Tyler told me that doesn’t make sense and he doesn’t understand what I’m saying, but it’s like Igor has gone from stiff and closed to shining and puffed...

Water Joy.

This afternoon it was warm and sunny. First warm day in a long time! We found ourselves downtown at these amazing fountains. The kids didn’t have swim suits, but we told them they could go play in their clothes. Igor couldn’t believe it. “Really? Dis ok Mom? Dis ok??? Really, ok dis?!” The kids had a blast, pun intended. We shall be returning to this place soon, this time with swimsuits and towels in hand. That is if the sun and...

He’s Here!

Tyler: You’re forcing me to adopt a Ukrainian teenage boy, and I love it. What have you done to me? Igor is 11 this year. We first met him when he was 8! It’s like he never left. Are there even any words?? We went swimming in a pool that belongs to my in-laws’ friends this afternoon as soon as Tyler and Igor arrived from the airport. Henry can swim. Igor took this picture of me and the one of Rosie....

First Start Reading from Memoria Press: A Review.

This week I will be posting reviews of two different homeschooling things. Today’s post is a review of First Start Reading from Memoria Press. Ada, who is almost five, helped me review this one. Tomorrow’s review is for Rosie’s age group, third grade and up, of something we found fun and educational at the same time. On to the topic of today’s review: Ada is nearing the age of beginning kindergarten work. She has been less eager to start reading than Rosie...

TOO MUCH SNOW! 0

March’s Blizzard.

The snow is insane. We usually get 2-3 inches at a time. Five inches here is considered a lot of snow. This time…we got about 18-20 inches in 24 hours. Insane My county has done a really good job of clearing the roads. We aren’t typically prepared for so much snow, so our county only owns four plows for hundreds of miles of road, but this time they hired private workers to plow. The Toyota factory has miraculously let workers not...
