hot car deaths preschooler practice how to escape 3

I would never forget my child in a hot car…

Does your toddler or preschooler know how to get out of a car when the doors are shut? Why is this not something we talk about? Why isn’t it a thing we teach our kids, like we do with fire drills? Tonight I realized my son, who will be four in just a few days, couldn’t open the car doors from the inside by himself. He’s strong, he’s big for his age, and he’s smart. But the door handle didn’t open...

Spring Break Pictures

We went to Kentucky to visit my parents for spring break! This is a tank at the park near their house. Rosie and my sister Hannah… They are so clones of each other! I tried to take nice pictures of the kids in a pretty field, but the only time we had to go to the field was when it was windy with huge clouds alternating blinding sun. I’ll have to dress them up and do pictures in Ohio later, when...

Tons of Pictures from February…

The kids with their cousin Lucy! The girls went to their cousin Lauren’s birthday party in Prestonsburg the next day with the in-laws. I think the girls had a blast at the party. These are pictures my FIL took there. While they were gone we visited with Tyler’s granny. It felt good to be back in Kentucky where everything is familiar. People smile at you, hold doors open, make friendly small talk, and their accents are soft on your ears. Columbus...

Yesterday…

Rosie is getting so big. It’s unbelievable. I’m not sure how this is happening so quickly. It was almost 80 degrees out, so I let Henry play in the water. Ada played too, but not for long because the water was freezing cold! Rosie was too old to even be interested. This one…hahaha! He was pretending to be Hulk. Of course today it’s gray, cloudy, misting rain, and in the 50’s outside. One day of nice weather, five days of gray...

Time for Goodbye

Like many other Americans, I bought a Powerball ticket yesterday. I don’t normally buy any kind of lottery tickets. Actually this is the first time I’ve ever purchased one. But I thought, What the heck, $2 for a Powerball ticket isn’t much.  Just in case a miracle should occur… I know exactly what I would do with that money. Happy days to all of my friends who are adopting and struggling to raise the funds! Your adoptions just became fully funded!!...

The Japanese Came.

Everything went really well last night with the Japanese guys! Tyler said they had a great time. They stood up when I entered the room and bowed to me, and thanked me profusely for the wonderful meal. I am like a princess. I should have married a Japanese man! (Just kidding.) Tyler wanted to serve them American Thanksgiving food because they had never had those foods before. They’ve had steak and typical nice restaurant foods during their stay here, but not...

The Japanese are Coming!

Apparently we are having the Japanese business men over for dinner on Sunday. They expect a classic American meal with an ample amount of liquor. Cue panic. So I decided to start in the most logical place: Rearrange a few things so that it doesn’t look like an insane tribe of feral children live here. Beginning with the living room. Dear God, it’s not going well. Part of the problem is that we can’t afford adult furniture. Please tell me I’m...

Taxidermy.

Today in The Life of Weird Homeschoolers: The children spent at least half an hour petting taxidermy victims in the feed store this morning. Nothing like getting up close and personal with an alarmingly large dead beaver! Or if you’re a certain four year old girl there’s nothing quite like forcing your mother to yell, “For the love of all that is holy stop kissing that poor fox. No we cannot buy it. No you cannot pretend it is still alive and...

Holden Beach: Day 1. 1

Holden Beach: Day 1.

I think being in my house is what causes a lot of my anxiety because I am able to travel across the eastern half of the USA alone with the kids without any panic.  Who knows how my brain works.  I certainly don’t. Ada cried all night last night and finally fell asleep around 4 in the morning.  I fell asleep at 4:30, while Ada nursed and tossed and turned.  My alarm went off at 6:30.  I cried in bed over...

Bread Machine Recipe & Pictures of the Girls. 0

Bread Machine Recipe & Pictures of the Girls.

The other day I took the girls to Goodwill because it was really hot and we were bored.  I found a new bread machine with wrapping still on it for $6! I used to have a bread maker, but Tyler wouldn’t eat the bread out of it because he didn’t like the way it was shaped.  Yes, seriously.  So I gave it away to an older lady who had arthritic hands and could no longer knead bread.  She was super appreciative so I didn’t...
