Nine Days. 1

Nine Days.

The other day I was talking to my neighbor, who is a middle aged divorced woman.  She lives with her two adult sons.  Her sons are somewhere around my age, in their 20’s.   I mentioned that we were going to be hosting an orphan from Ukraine soon.  She was just shocked.  Flabbergasted.  She couldn’t believe it.  She said, “Why would you want to do that?”   I’ve been surprised at the reactions we’ve gotten from people when they find out...

Worst Road Trip EVER. 5

Worst Road Trip EVER.

This is a great blog entry.  One in which I admit to drugging my toddler and leaving my five year old alone with strange men outside a diner.  In other words, it’s a post about a bad day.  A really, really, REALLY bad day.  In hindsight it’s a tiny bit funny.  Just a teeny tiny bit.   We tried to go to meet friends from my April 2010 due date club yesterday in Asheville and it was a complete and total fail. ...

The Red Incident. 1

The Red Incident.

Dear Ada, Two hours after you were born your father and I debated over which middle name we should give you. Louise or Lucille. Louise was just a name we liked.  Lucille was chosen after my favorite TV role model of all time, Lucille Ball. Somehow we just knew that Lucille would be the right name for you.  Unfortunately I didn’t anticipate exactly how intricate your hijinks would be.  I’m almost afraid to say you’re going to surpass Lucille Ball’s ridiculousness if...

Well. 0

Well.

I don’t have anything to write about because, blissfully, this is all we do…   Junior Naturalist classes at the nature center.     (That’s my mom with Ada.)   Backyard swimming.             Long walks. (Wish they were on a beach…)   Cooking and eating.     Nursing, nursing, nursing…     More long walks.     Tantrums, complete with floppy noodle body and floor flailing.   Nursing.  Insomnia. Tired Momma.     Science/crafts/toys.   Lots...

Spring Cleaning: The Expedit Shelving! 5

Spring Cleaning: The Expedit Shelving!

Since we saved up enough money to buy the Expedit shelves from Ikea, we decided to just keep on going and clean out the entire house. Well. That is a lot of work!  Still on-going…I’m hoping we can have it all finished by Saturday, when we’re having Ada’s birthday party. OMG did I just say that?  Ada’s first birthday party! Her actual birthday is this Thursday, the 21st of April.  We’re having family over for doggy cake on Saturday.  Can’t believe my squishy...

On a darky, rainy night… 1

On a darky, rainy night…

I never realized how much I would love having more than one child.  I am so happy.  It’s kind of sickening considering all of the bad things going on in the world, but there it is. Joy. I guess I shouldn’t apologize for it, because it’s crazy wonderful. You know, I am a college drop out.  I dropped out with two semesters left to get my degree.  I gave up a full scholarship that I earned with my perfect high school GPA. I got pregnant and married when I was 19...

The Intruder Incident. 5

The Intruder Incident.

It’s 6:00 at night and it’s dark out and I am a bit on edge. Up until a few days ago I’ve always felt fairly safe in our neighborhood.  I know all of our neighbors, nothing scary ever really happens…a lot of older people live around here so the most excitement we get are ambulances when someone has a medical problem. Tyler leaves for work at 3:45 every afternoon.  It gets fully dark around 5:45-6 in the evening these days. The...
