Day of Firsts. 4

Day of Firsts.

My Ada is a wild child.  Here she is this morning.  First pig tails ever in her hair today.  :)     I don’t know what Ada’s deal is.  She is constantly running, actually running, and into every single thing. I feel like my head is spinning!  Blink for one second and she’s climbed up on the back of the couch.  Go to the bathroom and she’s pulled out a box of crackers and is stomping on them while they’re still in the...

Train of Thought. 9

Train of Thought.

Unfortunately the mechanic said my wonderfully ridiculous Navigator (see previous entry) had too many issues to make it worth buying.  The air ride suspension was out and it needed completely new breaks.  More than $2,000 worth of work when everything added up.  The seller didn’t know and his face totally crumpled.  He plans to "dump it at auction" in his words.  It was a bad ass car though, with the ridiculous rims.  Oh well. Casual car shopping on a nearly invisible...

Life.

These photos are from tonight when we visited with my parents tonight. We walked to the park around the corner.  Ada took her first ride in a stroller with mixed results. I don’t own a stroller.  I just teach the girls to walk along, not to run away from me or into the road. We never really go anywhere that would require a stroller except something like the zoo, and then we can take our wagon. My mom has a stroller though,...

Green. 2

Green.

Mother Nature decided today could be spring-like.  Thankfully! Rosie decided that today could be a Little House on the Prairie day.  She got so angry when I kept forgetting to call her Mary.  She also insisted that I dress as Ma, which includes wearing my Ma bonnet. At one point the dog got out and ran down the road, and I chased her wearing my bonnet.  I totally forgot it was on.  The rest of the world wasn’t celebrating Little House on the Prairie...

Not School Homeschool. 6

Not School Homeschool.

Since we have officially not enrolled Rosie in Kindergarten for this coming fall I figured it’s time to start practicing our homeschooling routine. I’m realizing now that this will take a lot of organization and dedication on my part.  We can’t just float through our days and wait for knowledge to magically appear.  Unschooling kind of sounds like this is how it works, but I don’t think that’s quite true.  Unschooling parents spend time facilitating activities for their kids to do that will...

This Morning… 2

This Morning…

This morning we soaked up the last of the warm sun before a huge cold front moved through. Now it’s blustery and the low is 30 degrees.  The entire 10 day forecast is cold and wet and blustery.  How depressing. But this morning, it was nice and warm. There were dark rain clouds filling the horizon with warm yellow sun filtering through and highlighting the bright green grass.  Rosie was afraid to step in the wet grass with her bare feet. ...

We are so small. 2

We are so small.

Seeing footage of the Japan tsunami on the news is giving me panic attacks. I’m horrified, and heartbroken for these people. More than that, it scares me to be reminded of how powerless we are.  We are such tiny creatures compared to the awe striking power of Mother Nature. And my babies, I always think of them.  To lose them, to see them suffer, for me to die and leave them before they are ready.  It terrifies me.  I want to hold them...

A March Afternoon. 1

A March Afternoon.

We had a nice, sunny, warm-ish afternoon today.  Since it looks like the last nice day in the near forecast I decided we’d better take advantage. We got halfway through repairing the roof for one of the chicken pens.  Then I swept off the back porch and put the old plastic play house up there so Rosie and Ada could play together.  Rosie loved having someone to play with her, and Ada had a blast crawling and toddling and trying to climb on...

Siblings.

I have to be honest. Sometimes I wonder if I’ve forever destroyed my relationship with Rosie by adding Ada to the mix.  Rosie used to be the very center of my world.  She was my baby, I always knew every little thing she did and I was always there to snuggle with her, play with her, give her constant attention. Then Ada came along and Rosie had to step aside, because babies need a lot of attention… But.  But, but, but… When I look...

1/14/2011

Yesterday was the first day of the spring semester classes for homeschool co-op. Rosie was so excited.  She’s so very extroverted, she needs to have opportunities to go out and meet other people.  She tries to talk to every person she sees when we’re out shopping, poor thing.  She wants to tell every soul that her name is Rosie and she’s age 4 and a half and her doll’s name is Mary.  (All of her dolls are named Mary, after Mary...
