2016

“Perhaps all the dragons in our lives are princesses who are only waiting to see us act, just once, with beauty and courage. Perhaps everything that frightens us is, in its deepest essence, something helpless that wants our love.” Rainer Maria Rilke, Letters to a Young Poet Happy New Year, friends. I’m curious to see what this year holds for our family. Edit entry Delete entry

Christmas Videos!

Here’s a video of the kids opening their Christmas presents. Igor was so excited when he discovered his Kindle Fire under the tree. So sweet! This is the same video, but not in fast forward. It’s much longer, but you can actually hear what everyone is saying if you want. I have lots of pictures too, but no time to edit them yet. Soon! This was our first Christmas away from family. It was weird. It was so warm out, and...

Igor Videos!

I have things to write about, but it’s already 2:15 in the morning. I need to hurry up and go to sleep. I was exhausted all day today. I have to get up at 5:30 in the morning because Baby E (daycare baby) gets here quite early. I am not a morning person. I get my second wind at night around 10:30 and I’m happy to stay up half the night soaking up the (mostly) alone time while the kids sleep....

And…

He’s been traveling for 24 hours. He’s here and he’s very happy! They have begun the eleven hour drive home. I’ll get to see him tomorrow. :D

Today is the Day!

And it’s right NOW. Tyler and Rosie are at the Atlanta airport waiting for Igor to come through customs. Igor was very excited about the trip. It feels like he’s coming home after being away for a few months. I’m a little anxious about how his behavior will be, but most of all I am excited to see him again. We’re working on a new plan to unravel more of his status mystery, and trying to figure out how we can...

Tomorrow!

Tomorrow is December 15th. Do you know what happens on that date?? At 2:50 pm Igor will arrive in the Atlanta airport and head through customs! Tyler and Rosie are already down there, staying with Tyler’s grandma in Fayetteville about 45 minutes south of the airport. Today they went to Legoland, and they’re enjoying visiting with his grandma and other relatives. We’re so excited to see Igor again. It just feels like he’s been away on a trip or something and...

Please See These Kids!

Love First Ministries is the organization that we host Igor with. Here is their website, and their Facebook page. http://www.lovefirstministries.org/ https://www.facebook.com/Love-First-Ministries-1539258289638831/ They still have a handful of children waiting to be chosen for winter hosting this year! The following children are at Igor’s orphanage. I have known them for several years now, on social media, at the airport, on Skype, and through other families who have adopted from the orphanage. This is K. She will be aging out this year. She...

Honestly…

I made it public, officially on Facebook and my blog. Igor is coming back. I hesitated because I was nervous. I was honest about our struggles this summer. I didn’t know how people would react to finding out we are having him back again. Mostly positive response, which is good. Lots of private messages from friends. It’s hard because I get several different responses when I talk about what it’s really like, the nitty gritty of life with a traumatized child....

Big Change of Plans…!

On Tuesday night of last week one of the coordinators from the host program called me. She was very upset. She said that Max’s director at the orphanage didn’t want him to come for hosting any longer. She was crying because she knew how excited we were and she was just heartbroken for our family. This has happened to us (and only us!) multiple times now–our host kid cannot come at the last minute. We had a Russian speaking friend call...

Ferdinand & The Home Study

This is Ferdinand. He belongs to the farm across the road from our subdivision. The farm is run by the Dominican Sisters of Peace. Yes, nuns. But they are white older ladies who are very much from America, so I’m not clear about the Dominican aspect of it. I started the volunteer application process for the farm this weekend. I’m so excited. They have 160 acres with sheep, the guard llama pictured above, chickens, a turkey, bees, gardens, a greenhouse,...
