A quick study of Ada at 20 months: 5 minutes in the tub. 0

A quick study of Ada at 20 months: 5 minutes in the tub.

This morning we did all of our school plans for the day–Rosie wanted to focus for some reason.  I’m not complaining!  We did our morning board, where we write the day of the week, the date in two forms, the day of school we’re on, the weather, etc.  Then we did a math worksheet about different ways to add up the number five.  Math is Rosie’s hardest subject. We learned about the parts of a fish and how fish are different...

January Sunshine. 1

January Sunshine.

Rosie didn’t do dance class last semester because I thought she wasn’t getting that much out of it. That proved to be a mistake since she asked why she wasn’t going to dance class EVERY single day all fall.  So this semester, she’s back at it sponsored by my mother-in-law.  Today was the first class and she was so very excited.  She insisted on wearing her heart tights instead of the standard white ones everyone else wears. Here she is ready to...

The Walking Mermaid & Homeschooling Thoughts. 5

The Walking Mermaid & Homeschooling Thoughts.

We’re now in the second half of our first year homeschooling. We’ve done about 95 days of school.  The state requires us to do 180 days for the year, so we’re on track for that, though nothing says our year has to follow the traditional school year.  I have a feeling we’ll continue learning over the summer.   In December we took a lot of days off.  I had a major loss in confidence.  Sometimes I think–holy crap, what am I doing?  Homeschooling...

New Year’s Day: 55 and sunny outside…! The girls went outside to play in the new house they got for Christmas. This picture is like Ada all summed up in one snapshot.  Crooked grin, hammer swinging, chipped front tooth, pure happy. It was extremely windy out.  Cooler air on the way! Big blue eyes!  (Ignore the muddy dog prints. I give up during winter.) They look so happy, don’t they? I’m afraid I’m not being a very good mother to them right...

Sugar Cookies & Second Shift Blues. 0

Sugar Cookies & Second Shift Blues.

Aren’t they just gorgeous? LOL!   I feel like I need to declutter before Christmas hits us. The rooms in my house are so small.  We have a lot of big toys…like a kitchen center, the awesome wooden rocking boat, a school bus/slide thing, a rocking doggy.  The girls play with those things all the time.  There’s nothing I can really get rid of that won’t be sorely missed, you know?  If we had a basement we could just put some things down there,...

Food Allergies & An Afternoon with Friends. 1

Food Allergies & An Afternoon with Friends.

Note: The first half of the entry (the writing) is about Ada’s stomach virus, and poop vs. my food allergies.  If you’re eating or that offends you, you may want to skip to the cute kid pictures below.   Ada had her first stomach virus on Wednesday. She woke up at 5 in the morning and burped then choked a little, and spewed.  Thankfully it was all breastmilk, but still. She threw up all morning and all afternoon.  It was so...

Meeting Santa & Early Presents from Grandma. 0

Meeting Santa & Early Presents from Grandma.

Yesterday morning the local bookstore had Santa Claus come during their weekly story time to read The Night Before Christmas.  Then the kids got to sit on his knee. Rosie was SO excited. She said, “I’m going to explode into eleventy one hundred seven and two pieces!” When Ada saw Santa coming she made this face: And then this is how she stared at him while he read the story… He had a real beard! They had to tell Santa one...

Reflections on Six Years of Marriage. 4

Reflections on Six Years of Marriage.

We were trying to set up the Christmas tree yesterday afternoon, but no one could concentrate. You know, in just a couple days and one month I will have been married to this man for six years.   While we’ve had some serious rough patches, we are in a great place now.   Seriously.  I can’t believe how lucky I am to be married to him.   Of course no relationship is perfect, there will always be minor gripes.   Sometimes I try...

This little guy is in the dog house.   I am so sick and tired of cleaning up his pee from various objects in my house! I don’t understand it.  He will get up and pee somewhere in the house at night then come back to bed. He pees in random places when we aren’t looking, on things like the kids’ toys or a basket of clean folded laundry. This morning he peed on the bottom drawer of my stove and it...

Heart Stopping. 2

Heart Stopping.

I saw this picture tonight of a little girl and my heart started beating considerably faster. I look at adoption listings all the time, on several sites and linked from some adoption blogs I read.  A picture has never made me have a physical reaction before, not like this one. It sounds stupid really, but…I don’t know.  This little girl just looks like she belongs in our family.  Something in me recognized her.   She’s four years old and in a Russian orphanage.  She has...
