Ten.

One whole decade. That’s how old my baby is now. That’s how long I’ve been a mother. I was 19 and pregnant. I wish I could go back and tell the 19 year old me that it will all be ok in the end. The journey to “ok” definitely wasn’t an easy one, but we’re here now, safe and sound. Well, at least as “ok” as anyone ever is, I suppose. ;) I spent her entire pregnancy in a state of...

Bicycle, Bicycle: The Movie! 3

Bicycle, Bicycle: The Movie!

Look at this video I made of Rosie learning to ride her bike for the first time! I made it with my 5d Mark II instead of the iPhone.  It was fun, I’ll have to practice making more videos with it. Rosie thinks the part with Ada at the end is the best, she laughs so hard every time she watches it. (It should be HD quality and is on YouTube, but when I post it on the entry...

Right. 1

Right.

It’s…July! JULY. I might have a baby in the month of July. “Might” being the key word of course.  His official due date based on the dating ultrasound is the 1st of August.  Rosie and Ada were both born at 39 weeks, but watch this little guy fake me out and make me wait until 42 weeks or something.  That would continue the trend of this being the longest pregnancy ever. I’m hoping for July 27 or 28.  Rosie’s due date...

The Walking Mermaid & Homeschooling Thoughts. 5

The Walking Mermaid & Homeschooling Thoughts.

We’re now in the second half of our first year homeschooling. We’ve done about 95 days of school.  The state requires us to do 180 days for the year, so we’re on track for that, though nothing says our year has to follow the traditional school year.  I have a feeling we’ll continue learning over the summer.   In December we took a lot of days off.  I had a major loss in confidence.  Sometimes I think–holy crap, what am I doing?  Homeschooling...

Reading.

Rosie read me a Henry and Mudge book tonight. She reads very slowly and has trouble sounding out some words still, but SHE CAN READ. Oh my gosh. She is so proud of herself, she was about to burst.  I had no idea she could read words like “winter” or “sparkle”.  We’ve been working on sight words from the Dolch list as a part of homeschooling and doing some random phonics work sheets she likes from the Comprehensive Curriculum book for 1st...

Not School Homeschool. 6

Not School Homeschool.

Since we have officially not enrolled Rosie in Kindergarten for this coming fall I figured it’s time to start practicing our homeschooling routine. I’m realizing now that this will take a lot of organization and dedication on my part.  We can’t just float through our days and wait for knowledge to magically appear.  Unschooling kind of sounds like this is how it works, but I don’t think that’s quite true.  Unschooling parents spend time facilitating activities for their kids to do that will...

Preschool Homeschool…

I have been felled by a cold.  Oh misery.  It’s not a terrible cold, just enough to give me the sniffles and a tickle in the my throat and make me want to lay in bed for a day watching bad TV and eating soup. Most unfortunately motherhood does not come with bad TV and soup days.  Instead I get to blow my nose with Ada’s cloth wipes while carrying on my normal daily slave tasks around the home. Ah well, at least my...

18/365 Can your pets make breakfast? I’ve been trying to pay extra attention to Rosie lately.  I love the way she absolutely lights up when I teach her something new.  She’s big on learning how to do things all by herself lately. Sleep in her own bed?  Check.  Open her own granola bars and string cheese wrappers?  Mhm, and open everyone elses’ for them as well.  Wipe her own bum?  Sometimes yes, sometimes no.  Dress herself in clothes she selects?  Oh,...

Rosie Reading. 1

Rosie Reading.

My hormones are throwing me through a loop lately. I’ve got more pimples than I had in middle school, nipples throbbing on and off, waves of PMS-like nausea and cramping, and a few episodes of brown spotting.  Maybe Aunt Flow will be back soon?  This is so annoying, I wish I could just have my period and get it over with instead of the constant flux of hormones making me feel like crap in sudden bursts. Ada is still nursing lots and lots, so...

Rosie’s Dance Recital. <3 0

Rosie’s Dance Recital. <3

Rosie’s first dance recital last night went well.  She had such a great time! Despite any reservations I might have had about her outfit, they all looked SO CUTE together.  The other age groups did a wonderful job too.  Ada loved watching them dance.  She kept putting her arms over her head in an arch and then clapping her hands, and dancing by bending her knees.  I think maybe she will want to do dance when she turns four too… Look how...
