It’s Happening Now!

See that kid in the blue shirt bending over to reach a backpack on the floor? That would be my Igor. My Igor, in the Kyiv airport because he is currently getting ready to board his 6:15 a.m. flight. Tyler will pick him up at the airport tomorrow afternoon, and then they’ll head back this way to us. We’ll see them Saturday morning. I am so, so, so EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!

Just a quick update to say…

The visa appointment was on Thursday. I was so nervous. I woke up every ten minutes all night long to check my phone, and to check the time to see if it was 3:30 in the morning yet. (9:30 a.m. Ukraine time.) Finally I woke up at it was 4:30 and I had a message from the coordinator. Unofficial news: The kids say they all got visas! Preliminary excitement! I was wide awake at that point. About half an hour later...

The Big Visa Appointment.

On Saturday all of the kids from Igor’s orphanage got to go bowling. Igor is in the front row wearing dark blue. The big visa appointment is Thursday the 28th at 9:30 in the morning Ukraine time. I think that’s during the night tonight (Wednesday night) American time. I’m so nervous!! The best news ever is that I have the wonderful coordinator of the host program on my side. She has visited Ukraine multiple times, adopted, hosted, knows the orphanage and...

Skype.

Igor loves that his roommate is letting him borrow the phone to Skype with us. He doesn’t say much on Skype, he just wants to look at me. The other day I let Rosie Skype with him while I was getting Henry to sleep and Igor said, “Call back when this Mom is here, ok?” He’s so cute. It’s funny, I mean you don’t typically think of an eleven year old boy from halfway around the world as being so lovable,...

Stress.

I am just one huge ball of stress. I keep looking around at my half packed house and I don’t even know where to start. I just want to hide in my bed. I think the Alinia (Giardia medication) has destroyed my intestinal flora. Miserable. I just need to be well again. I need to not spend my days pooping, or waiting to have emergency poop because my belly hurts so bad. It’s like a curse. I would give just about...

By the way…

With all of the house woes I never made a wonderful announcement: WE ARE FULLY FUNDED FOR IGOR TO RETURN! We have big two hurdles coming up in the next month: 1) Find somewhere to live before he arrives on June 12th. We have to do a home safety check, and we currently do not have a kitchen…not sure the social worker would be very pleased with this current disaster. I don’t know why this is happening to us, and now...

Quick! Igor’s friend V can be hosted (nearly) for free!!

Guys, guess what? Igor’s best friend Vitalik has a full scholarship for hosting. If you would like to host and have been afraid of the cost this is the PERFECT opportunity. Vitalik is on the adoption registry. He’s goofy and sweet. He has watched other kids get hosted and adopted, but no one ever comes for him. He is 10 or 11 years old. It is finally his turn. Vitalik is short for Valentin. He’s chubby and the older kids at...

The Full Story (of Igor, Forever & Ever.)

Look who it is!! An online friend I met through the hosting group (Children’s Cultural Connection) arrived at Igor’s orphanage to adopt her summer host siblings. She posted this picture of Igor for me. He was on his way to school this morning when they got there. All of the kids in Ukraine dress up in suits and white shirts for school. It’s part of their culture. Igor looks so happy! I’m not sure if they told him who the picture...
